The new Doyle Drive will include much-needed improvements for those who live, work, learn, and recreate in the Presidio. The Presidio Parkway design provides new direct access to the Presidio and indirect access to Marina Boulevard in both directions from access ramps that connect to an extension of Girard Road.
Currently, there is no direct access from Doyle Drive into the Presidio. In 1994, when the Presidio transformed from a military post to a national park, the need for direct access became a priority in order to meet anticipated demand, especially since the current lack of access often forces traffic to detour through city neighborhoods adjacent to the Presidio gates.
Additionally, transit access will be improved through the provision of extended bus bays near Gorgas Avenue to accommodate multiple transit providers, combined with well defined pedestrian routes.
