ElvUI is a complete user interface replacement that allows you to customize every part of your screen. From your action bars and player frames to your mini-map and chat windows, ElvUI organizes your screen space so you can focus on the game. This guide explains how to import my custom settings and how to adjust them for your role.
Why Use ElvUI?
The default game interface has improved, but it still lacks customization. ElvUI offers several key benefits:
- Unified Design: Every window, button, and bar matches the same clean, dark style.
- Saves Screen Space: You can hide elements you do not need, like bag bars or menu buttons, to see more of the game world.
- Role Profiles: You can set up different profiles for tanking, healing, and doing damage, and ElvUI will switch between them automatically when you change your spec.
- Low System Impact: Despite changing your entire screen, ElvUI uses very little computer memory.
How to Import My Custom Profile
I have spent years testing interface layouts to find the best setup for raiding and dungeons. My profile puts all your essential combat information in the center of the screen, right under your character.
To import my settings, follow these simple steps:
- Open ElvUI Options: Type /ec in your game chat and press enter.
- Go to Profiles: Click on the “Profiles” tab on the left-side menu.
- Click Import Profile: Click the “Import Profile” button at the top of the window.
- Paste the String: Copy the custom settings string (available in my guide articles on the site) and paste it into the empty text box.
- Apply the Profile: Click “Import Now.” Your screen will reload, and the new layout will be active.
Adjusting Your Unit Frames
Unit frames are the bars that show your health and resource levels, as well as the health of your target and your group members.
| Frame Type | Ideal Position | Why It Matters |
| Player Frame | Center-Left of your character | Lets you track your health without looking away from combat |
| Target Frame | Center-Right of your character | Shows target health and casting bars clearly |
| Raid Frames | Bottom-Center of the screen | Essential for healers to see group health and debuffs fast |
| Focus Frame | Upper-Left of the screen | Tracks secondary targets for interrupts or crowd control |
Key Settings to Turn On
Once you have imported my profile, check these key options to make sure they are active:
- Castbar Spark: Go to UnitFrames > Player > Castbar and enable the Spark. This adds a bright line at the end of your casting bar to help you time your spells perfectly.
- Debuff Highlighting: Go to UnitFrames > Raid > Debuff Highlighting. This changes the color of a group member’s health bar if they have a harmful spell that you can remove.
- Action Bar Paging: Go to ActionBars > Bar 1 > Paging. Set this to page up when you hold the Shift key, allowing you to access a second bar of spells easily without taking up more screen space.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- Problem: My screen is too cluttered after importing.
- Solution: Go to Toggle Anchors at the top of the ElvUI menu. This allows you to click and drag every single element on your screen. Move the bars until you have a clear view of your feet.
- Problem: The text size is too small.
- Solution: Go to General > Media and adjust the default font size. This will change the text size across your entire interface at once.
